In order to meet the growing demand for flexible packaging, MASTERPAK has lately installed another technologically-advanced flexographic printing press. The two modern printing presses print up to 8-color and have a web width of 1,440 mm and 1,270 mm respectively. They handle PE and PP films, paper and foil-based laminates and produce top quality results with accurate registration at high output speeds. “We can reproduce the most intricate design work involving solid areas, fine line and screen in perfect register,” plant manager Maroun Aoun enthuses. “This investment will definitely translate into higher flexibility, faster response, superior quality print and of course development of new markets”, Aoun adds. “ From the production of a wide-variety of quality consistent substrates to the excellence of the print to our ability to deliver on our promises, our customers invest their trust in MASTERPAK every time they place an order “, Aoun expands.

Amal Merhi, printed films market manager continues: “Since 1980, we have been offering printed packaging solutions for many industries: food, hygiene, tissue, soap & detergent, industrial, etc. We have the expertise and experience and are the first port of call for many companies. Indeed, we have always been good at staying close to the customer, working with the creative people in the supply chain.”

Want to keep the pests away without using toxic chemicals and hurting the environment? Seeking healthy and tasty crops, without hampering the quality and quantity of the produce? Looking to keep the beneficial insects in and the pesky ones out? Practice Integrated Pest Management (IPM)! IPM is the practice of long-term prevention and suppression of pests. Several methods are commonly used and include good cultural practices.

MASTERPAK is offering IPM solutions to impede insects and restrict epidemics of insect-borne viruses. Indeed, MASTERPAK’s range of agricultural and horticultural films, suitable for flowers, fruits and vegetables, allow the growth of herbs and flowers, fruits and vegetables, without the potentially harmful chemicals used for fertilizing, and for the control of insects, disease and weeds.

“MASTERPAK’s Disease Control Film (DCF) is one solution sustaining IPM practices”, as puts it Rany Sfeir, MASTERPAK agricultural engineer. “It blocks UV sun rays up to 380 nm causing insects to lose visual ability inside greenhouses, preventing viral, fungal diseases and crop damage caused by white flies, aphids, red spiders, leaf miners, thrips and other insects. This results in the substantial decrease in the use of agricultural chemicals and thus lower production cost for the grower”, Sfeir explains.

“The Thermal Solarization Film is another solution contributing to the IPM”, Sfeir adds. “It disinfects the soil while protecting the environment and prohibiting destruction of beneficial organisms. The fumigation process is  one month shorter than the regular fumigation process and the fumigation cost is lower.”

“The Silver/Brown Mulch Film is another effective solution to grow organic”, says Sfeir. “The brown layer works as a weed controller, reducing the use of herbicides, manning and irrigation. The silver layer acts as an insect repellent given its brightness effect preventing the usage of insecticides.”

“MASTERPAK was accredited the certification to ISO 9001:2008 on November 8, 2009 after a successful completion of a routine surveillance or recertification audit against the ISO 9001:2008 requirements. ISO 9001:2008 introduces clarifications to the existing requirements of ISO 9001:2000 and improves compatibility with ISO 14001:2004.

“This new accreditation comes in line with our quality policy”, explains Guy Habbaki, MASTERPAK Quality Manager. “We are committed to develop, produce and deliver quality and innovative plastic film solutions and masterbatches consistent with our customers’ requirements. And, this is accomplished by maintaining and continuously improving our Quality Management System to manage effectively our business operations. We establish, communicate and regularly review our Quality Objectives, aimed at providing preventive measures to eliminate defects and minimize costs” adds Habbaki.
